August 2004...
Fire at Lonesome Lake... it's good news with regards to the BC forest fire in our region that made the national news and affected many in the local community and beyond!
Two months have passed since a lightning strike on June 20th started a forest fire on the southeast corner of Turner Lake in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park... this fire grew to be the largest in the province within a couple weeks.
With regards to our own operations in this general area, we are relieved to announce that no structures have been lost to the fire that relentlessly threatened Turner, Stewart and Davidson Lakes these last two months.
As the fire is now 'old news', Stewart's Lodge is pleased to announce...

Turner Lake Chain... the closure of the Turner Lake Chain, which affected operation of Tweedsmuir Wilderness Camp, is NO longer in effect.

Outposts... the closure which affected Stewart Lake and Davidson Lake is NO longer in effect as the threat by the fire to those two Stewart's Lodge outposts has passed.

We trust that this fire and the scars it left behind, will fade with time.

If you have not followed the news coverage of this wildfire as it continued to advance on Charlotte Lake and the neighbouring communities of Nimpo Lake and Anahim Lake, and are interested in seeing the extent of the fire, the following links to the BC Ministry of Forests web site provide further information... history and maps for Lonesome Lake fire.

Booked a trip to Tweedsmuir Wilderness Camp or one of the above-noted outposts and would like additional information to what is posted here? Please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-ON THE FLY or send us email... we would be happy to give you a further update.
If you have a story and/or pictures of your trip to SLC that you would like to submit - please do - you just may find your adventures in the West Chilcotin posted on our web site!
We'll keep you posted as the season moves along...
